The WanderAbout Story
JASON MELTSNER, MBA, CTA
Founder & President
Jason was bit by the travel bug as a child. A commercial and corporate aviation enthusiast for as long as he can remember, he spent his early years poring over OAG Pocket Flight Guides and studying the design, equipment, and inner workings of all manner of aircraft and airlines. Air travel as a gateway to the world was his true passion.
As an adult, Jason took a detour from aviation, receiving his Bachelor of Business Administration from George Washington University in 2006. Upon graduating, aviation beckoned again, and he secured his first job in the corporate aviation sector at Talon Air, a Farmingdale-Republic Airport-based jet operator.
After a stretch at Talon, Jason took another sharp turn by joining the family business, a hearing aid manufacturing company. One day, while booking a business trip with the company’s travel agency, a New York-based agency called Smartflyer, the agent commented on Jason’s knowledge of aviation, noting that he seemed to be “in the wrong business.” Taking the agent at his word, Jason asked Smartflyer’s owner to hire him. After two years learning the fundamentals of the business, Jason put his newfound knowledge and enduring enthusiasm to work by founding WanderAbout. While completing his MBA at the Duke University Fuqua School of Business, Jason began building his own client base.
Today, WanderAbout has annual sales of over $15 million in commercial airfare and private jet charter
